‘vanishing gardens’
Transient beauty. Fading fast.
I paint with my lens to immortalise the otherworldly beauty that lies nestled in our magnificent reef systems. A tapestry woven with whispers of the most delicate structures and ornate patterns imaginable. Yet the incomprehensible reality is that these technicolour underwater sculptures will soon become a figment of our memory, if humanity does not immediately prioritise combatting the warming of our planet. The ever rising temperature of our ocean is slowly but surely suffocating our life source and the lungs of the Earth, which provide every second breath we take.
Through these underwater paintings, I pay tribute to the intricate feat of engineering and majestic artistry of our reefs’ architecture. The bedrock of life, these dynamic underwater communities are the foundations of entire ecosystems, of our very existence. Fragile yet resilient, they are ever enduring and adapting to an often hostile and changing environment.
This collection was envisioned to honour our ocean gardens. I seek to offer them a moment in the spotlight, to be admired and respected for the stunning sculptures that they are. My intention with my art is to galvanise stewardship by inspiring others to reconnect with their innate affinity with the natural world. To foster a deep sense of protection over our blue spaces.
These treasures are vanishing before our eyes. Like portals into the past, they are dangerously close to disappearing… forever.
Time is of the utmost essence.
