JAPANESE SUITE - THE TIDES MARGATE

Inspired by a special artwork that hangs centre stage, this room was designed as a homage to all things monochrome.

The walls are adorned with oriental antiques and plenty of touches of gold; be it the dragon smoke that dances across the alcoves, or the black and gold cornice stripes that wrap around the entire room. My signature ‘wall jewellery’ comes in the form of the painted bamboo that frames the alcove and doorways, while the black and gold wallpapered door adds a touch of decadence

The masterpiece ceiling creates a surrealist Japanese dream. Every parasol was sourced second hand, weaving a canopy of stories of the people and places to whom they each belonged before. The only new product for this space was the bamboo bed. Otherwise each item of furniture was carefully collected or upcycled to fit the palette and theme of the space, including the showstopper gold wardrobe which was created using leftover materials from the metallic bathroom.

From the geometric rug to the majestic kimono that hangs above the bed, the soft furnishings were consciously sourced, turning them from another’s trash into Japanese treasure.
