LIVING ROOM - THE TIDES MARGATE

The vision for this space was Arabian Nights meets a moody cocktail lounge. As the hub of the property which would entertain many guests, it called for a decadent setting for socialising and hedonism.

The 3 metre high copper gilded walls were no simple feat, with many days spent up a ladder to achieve this eye catching finish. Not to mention the hand sponged gold ceiling, which comes to life under nightfall, when it reflects all of the warmth and ambient light in the space.

My signature ‘wall jewellery’ copper pipes punctuate the many lines and angles of this Victorian build, with a gold painted cornice to complete the framework. Every wall is a feature wall thanks to the patchwork panelling effect and mirroring of colour blocking. The fireplace was revamped using matte chalk paint, and the second hand drinks cabinet laced with gold leaf helps to transition the mood from daytime glamour to indulgent night caps.

The walls feature an intricate peacock artwork by Lily Adele, and the gold canvas is an original piece I made using leftover paints from the project. The black sofa was an upcycled piece rescued on its way to the tip from a friend’s family home years prior, and expertly reupholstered by Poh Maluna in sumptuous black velvet. The vintage Turkish rugs sourced on Etsy, finished off with locally sourced preloved decor and various antiquities from travels, bring a much needed sense of nostalgia to the space.

An ode to items with a story to tell, the only new items in this room are the copper sockets from Dowsing & Reynolds, the gold wall lights and the teal curtains.
