MOROCCAN SUITE - THE TIDES MARGATE

Step through the golden panelled doorway and find yourself transported to the colourful feast of a Moroccan palace with a psychedelic, sixties twist. A master boudoir like no other, dressed in burnt oranges and icy pastels; a signature palette of the majestic design this beautiful country is so well known for.

The masterpiece of the step up tiled four poster bed was custom designed to offer the most lavish of sleep settings, with bed drapes that wrap you in a peachy dream. The printed pastel tiles add yet more impact and were one of the few items sourced new, along with the golden wall lights.

From a silver leafed bathroom to the vaulted ceiling, this room was hand crafted with the ultimate attention to detail. Each wall was painted with an iridescent marble finish, lovingly sponged across many days and layers. The golden poles (aka ‘wall jewellery’) frame the beautiful bay windows, which are dressed in a combination of preloved and handmade curtains. The window seat was a custom build to elevate the grandeur of the shape of the room and provide a setting to take in the serene sea views.

I reupholstered the bench cushions myself and handmade most of the remaining soft furnishings using recycled materials to compliment the tones of the traditional Moroccan rugs, which were sourced from a vintage seller. Every mirror, table, radiator cover and cupboard was given a new lease of life with a makeover, most notably the rocking chair which was 40 years old and had 3 generations of reupholstering hidden beneath it’s top layer.

The finishing touch was an original artwork, which I painted in situ to tie together the many shades and details of this room into canvas form.
